Nope, I remember that performance, and Sting sang live. The version on this promo contains both of the original recordings spliced together in sort of a medley arrangement. Like I said, it's a cool concept, but the editing is a bit lackluster.

HOWEVER, the MTV performance could have been the inspiration for this version.

A friend of mine just gave me an extremely rare and unique promo CD single of "I'll Be Missing You." It simply credits Puff Daddy, and it's on a factory pressed disc with plain black lettering. There is no artwork, but it does have a catalog number:

If it is simply an early fade of the version found on the CD maxi single, then that is the DJ edit. The song "I'll Be Missing You" appears on the Diana, Princess of Wales: Tribute CD, in a version that runs (4:03), or about a minute shorter than the 45 version.
