well, we just got an answer to the mystery!

as for the "why" that will remain a mystery forever i'm
sure, but the "where?" is now solved.

Just talked to a buddy who has the LP "Boston Soul:
Wilder Things with the Hardly-Worthit Players - Senator
Bobby & Friends" .. and this is the vinyl source of the
"no kazoo" version.

well Markie, that's a revelation. But it also poses the question, since the
Liberty Bell bootleg CD series "All the Hits by All the Stars" is sourced from
vinyl, what vinyl did they source the missing kazoo version from? And, why
is it missing from the official Cameo/Parkway box?

Hi all,

well, most of my vinyl is long gone - but after my recent
move, and now unpacking and looking through what albums
we still have have, i discovered i still actually HAVE my
LP for "The Hardly-Worthit Report".

As indicated, this LP was re-cut to include "Wild Thing"
but they didn't even change the jacket or label. They
simply added a line above the track listing that says
"Intro: Wild Thing by Senator Bobby".... and on the
outside jacket they put a sticker stating it includes it.

The album is stereo, but Wild Thing is re-channeled with
gobs of shower-room stereo reverb added.
It DOES have the kazoo overdub.

I am embarassed to admit that I have 3 Hardly-WorthIt Players LPs and 2 Senator Bobby 45s. I pulled out the Liberty Bell CD, the Wild Thing 45 with the same deadwax etchings as mentioned earlier and the Boston Soul LP (in mono P-7057 - there is a stereo version listed as SP-7057) which is also listed as Wilder Things on the spine. The CD and the LP sync up perfectly with no kazoo overdub. The single on the other hand has very subtle kazoo starting after the first verse (it drops in and out and requires a VERY clean 45 to hear). The most obvious kazoo is about 2:18 in and runs till the end of the record getting a bit louder at times. I am not sure if I am just hearing the difference of a trebly 45 vs a CD from a vinyl LP, but there might be a bit more reverb presence to the vocal on my vinyl 45 as well. I also listened to the earlier post of a youtube video and it's not really clear enough to hear much kazoo (note that the kazoo is not the same as the ocarina solo which is very prominent on all sources). I do wonder if the stereo LP is different or perhaps rechanneled - anybody know?

I have a couple other singles by the H-W players...one of which is "Senator Bobby" doing "Mellow Yellow" b/w a parody of "Silent Night/7:00 News" (no Senator on this one). The other is just an unfunny novelty song.

Yes, the song appeared on an LP circa 1966/67 (in fact, two). I found this
information on Mike Callahan's BSN website:

"The Hardly-Worthit Report Featuring Chet Hardly & David Worthit"
(1966). Original pressings did not contain the track, however after it
became a hit, re-issues did.

"Boston Soul: Wilder Things with the Hardly-Worthit Players - Senator
Bobby & Friends" (1967).

Googling these LPs yields nice cover art and info. No indication however
as to whether the kazoo is missing or present.

For what it's worth, my 45 of "Wild Thing" by Senator Bobby (Parkway
127) also contains the kazoo. My deadwax info matches jimct's in post
#1, Parkway (in cursive) 127-A. But if you keep going, about an inch
later it reads "J.A.", followed a few inches later by (delta symbol)
64840.

I too wonder about an album. Since the flip was by Senator Everett
McKinley, you gotta wonder if there was enough material to cover a
whole album, although I see "Senator Bobby" had one other (very
minor) chart hit on Parkway with "Senator McKinley".

I have a version of this on a CD entitled "One Hit Wonders: A Novelty Experience" and it also does not contain the kazoo.

The "One Hit Wonders" CD is a great source for novelty hits of the '50s and '60s. Is it an import, as it's not in the database? The CD has no notations about where it is from.

I concur with the d/b that that kazoo is missing from the Cameo/Parkway
boxset. And I also concur with Todd Ireland that that kazoo is missing
from the Liberty Bell CD, "All the Hits By All the Stars, Volume Three."

I, too, thought the Libery Bell series came from a vinyl source. So, was
there another 45 of this song? Or is the Liberty Bell series from a tape
source (and, in fact, the same source as the Cameo/Parkway boxset)?
