Author: aaronk
Subject: 578
Posted: 20 February 2007 at 1:15pm

Both of Jim's copies are promo 45s, and they seem to be identical to the commercial copies that Ed has.

Atlantic 7-89371 contains the "Radio Mix" and has a printed time of (3:26). The runout groove says ST-A-50105-1 on both sides.

Also on Atlantic 7-89371 (the other copy) is the "New Radio Mix" with a printed time of (3:35). The runout groove on this copy says STA-50745-1. It comes with a picture sleeve that was probably the same one issued for the commercial copy, because the sleeve lists "Central Park Version" for the b-side, but the 45 has the "New Radio Mix" on both sides.

As Ed correctly states above, the "New Radio Mix" is the one that matches the Nancy Martinez CD, but faded early.

Given that two 45 versions exist, I'd be inclined to say that there are two true single versions, like we've seen in several other cases. For the completists, I'm sure they will want to have both. For database purposes, a comment such as "first issued 45 version" would probably work for CDs containing the "Radio Mix."

For the other CDs, I suppose "LP length" and "45 length" would work, as long as there is a comment next to the song title that explains the difference between the two 45 versions. For example:

Both DJ and commercial copies run (3:26), which is the first issued 45 and states "Radio Mix" on the label, and (3:35), which is the second issued 45 and states "New Radio Mix" on the label. The LP contains the "New Radio Mix" but runs longer than 45 copies.
