Author: jimct
Subject: 5833
Posted: 08 August 2010 at 5:44am

I have a question for anyone with a clear recollection of this song's nearly-Top 10 hit run on the AM radio, from around 9/64, as it was always a personal fave of mine. As Pat has already correctly noted in the database, the original 45 has a listed time of (2:55), but an actual time of (3:17). My question is this: the original Chess 45 ends cold. I was too young to remember the 1964 airplay details, but all the times I ever remember hearing the song on radio as an oldie (from the late 60s on), I always remember the song fading out noticably sooner than my recently-acquired original 45 does. Now, working in radio for many years, I'm certainly aware of the fact that non-original 45/LP sources were often used by radio for oldies, to then either cart up/spin on-the-air. My question: was there ever a shorter DJ 45, that radio might have gotten during 1964, that could possibly be the origin of this shorter, faded version? Or, is it simply just another example of label re-isuue version carelessness after the fact? Any help would be very much appreciated.
