I was music director at WJYY in 1998 and was the one who produced this edit, and yes, this was aired in all dayparts. The F-bombs were ducked sufficiently that the PD and I agreed that it shouldn't be an issue. No one complained AFAIK. As I noted upthread, we avoided rap whenever we could, especially during office hours.

Thank you for your help with this, Aaron! Glad that it
was not just my imagination that the "Clean Radio Edit"
(which is cleaner than the U.S. commercial CD single
"Radio Edit") was the version that I heard on the radio.

The word "f--k" in Jack Knight's "do you really wanna f-
-k with us" line is uncensored at both 0:29 and 2:09 in

OK, here's what I have...

Universal CD-R (no catalog number)
1. Derry London Squeaky Clean Radio Edit (listed & actual 3:29)

This CD-R has a paper adhesive label, complete with record label logos and credits.

I have a second CD-R that has the same Derry London version on it, but this one has no label. It's just a plain CD-R in a sleeve. I have no idea if this was sent out to radio or if someone made a copy of the other disc.

UPT5P-1328
1. Clean Radio Edit (listed & actual 3:57)
2. Clean Album Version (listed & actual 4:47)

The Clean Radio Edit does have at least one spot where you can just barely hear, in the right channel during the opening chorus, "do you really wanna f--k with us," and it's uncensored. Other than that, this version is cleaner than what appears on the US commercial CD single. (Jason was kind enough to send me a copy of the US commercial CD single's Radio Edit for comparison.)

Furthermore, the commercial CD single's Radio Edit is an edit of the Clean Album Version on the promo CD. So, cut 2 on the promo is not as clean as cut 1.

I don't remember the source I used for my edit, but there
was no trace left of any edited words in it. The only kind
of questionable line (which was left intact) was "I can
suck on you and you can suckle me).

I have the U.S. 2-track CD single in addition to a
Europe 4-track CD single in my collection. The Europe
CD single has a "Clean Radio Edit", which is edited
differently from the "Radio Edit" on the U.S. CD
single. For example, the "Clean Radio Edit" tends to
remove more of Jack Knight's vulgar background words
(although it misses at least one) with either silence
or a drum hit. If you listen to the "Radio Edit" at
2:58, the "fu" in Monifah's line, "do you wanna f***
with me tonight?" can be heard, as the rest of the
word has been cut off. On the "Clean Radio Edit", the
entire 4-letter word is removed. There is no trace of
it.

The U.S. Universal promo CD (#1328) has a listed
"Clean Radio Edit" as well. Is this "Clean Radio Edit"
on the U.S. promo CD the same as the one on the Europe
CD single or is it identical to the "Radio Edit" on
the U.S. 2-track commercial CD single? Can anyone
confirm? Thank you.

As Aaron noted, it was a small market as well as the state capitol...our station was what was on the background music system at the state office buildings...we weren't about to jeopardize office listening at the city's largest employer (had happened once before). The rap really added nothing to the song anyway.

I wonder if Gene aka NightAire knows him. The 3:29 "edit" is really a unique mix that could not be created simply by editing. It strips the talking/rap right out of the mix. jimct's speculation in the "DJ edits" thread is that the record company liked Derry London's concept and gave him credit for it, even though the final version wasn't done by Derry himself. They might have also chosen to do so in order to distance themselves as much as possible from the edit.
