In addition to the added reverb which Bill pointed out upthread, it should be pointed out that the U.S. 45 is a dedicated mono mix. The backing track on the stereo mix is basically mono, with the two vocal parts split between the two channels. Compared to the mono 45, the vocals are less prominent when the stereo track is summed to mono.

I have this in mono on a promo compilation, but it sounds like it could be a disc dub to me.
