Not sure if this means much, but I have the original 45 (on UA?) and under
the title in parenthesis is (Edit). To me, that means the 45 version is purely
an edit of the LP version. I prefer the 45 version, it seems to flow much

To create the 45 edit, remove the 72 beats from 0:42.6 to 1:06.2 from the LP version on EMI's Living In Oblivion Vol. 1 (1993). The edit is on a snare, and actually cuts off a portion of the word at 0:43, but sounds quite natural once it's finished.

The LP version on the 2-fer Vaporized (1997) sounds quite close to Living In Oblivion Vol. 1.

The LP version on Priority's Rock Of The '80s Vol. 3 (1992) is too loud and clips a lot. The same analog transfer is found on Richard Blade's Flashback Favorites Vol. 4 (1994).

The LP version on Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough Vol. 2 (1994) clips a lot. There are digital clones on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 22 1980-1983 (1997; 3 dB quieter) and Time-Life's 2-CD Modern Rock Vol. 2 1980-1981 (1999; 2.5 dB quieter).

The LP version on Rhino's 7-CD Like Omigod (2002) is a little quieter than Just Can't Get Enough Vol. 2, and clips a little less, but otherwise sounds close to Just Can't Get Enough Vol. 2.

The LP version on EMI Australia's 5-CD Eighties Complete Vol. 1 (1997) is probably from higher-generation source tapes but doesn't sound all that bad.

The LP version on EMI UK's Time To Remember 1980 (1997) is compressed and has a brassy-sounding EQ. Avoid.

I prefer the sound on Living In Oblivion, but Vaporized and the Rhino and Time-Life discs also sound OK.

It sounds like the same mix to me and yes, the LP version
can be edited to recreate the 45.

Unfortunately, I don't have my notes on where the edit
points are, but I do recall at least one edit at around the
:43 point that cuts straight to the chorus. It was one of
those edits that looked like it wasn't going to work but
sounded fine in practice.
