I've got this information from a
thread in the
Steve Hoffman forum which states
that the
version of "Day-In Day-Out"
appearing on The
Singles: 1969-1993 is not the
correct
single version, but it was used on
the UK
release which was titled The
Singles
Collection.

EMI use the correct single edit of Day-In Day- Out. Ryko have created their own unique edit with a few extra seconds of the intro left intact and a longer fade, plus a slightly tidier splice in the guitar solo than the actual single edit.

So the version of "Day-In Day-Out"
on the Ryko
edition was another incorrect
recreation of a
45 edit much like the wrong edits
of the
Let's Dance singles.
Aditionally, the
second CD of that Ryko compilation
has a
unique edit of "Loving the Alien"
which is a
shorter version of the LP version
running
4:43, but the actual 45 version of
that song
is a different mix.

This new information is correct as Day-In Day-Out has yet to appear in the true 45 version on cd. In a recent e-mail conversation I had with edtop40, he claims that the version of David Bowie's "Day-In Day-Out" on the 2-CD set The Singles 1969-1993 (Rykodisc 10218/19) is not the 45 version, as stated in the 10th edition. He says the vocals begin :04 later on this CD than on the 45. As a result, the run time on the 45 is 4:10, while the run time on the CD is 4:14.
