If you encode a mono song in joint stereo, it will result in a much, much smaller finished file, because there's little or no difference in the right channel.

You will find opinions all over the Net on which is better, stereo or joint stereo, but the majority of people recommond using joint stereo because, theoretically, you can end up with a higher bitrate.

AAC (the iTunes format) and WMA just automatically use joint stereo... I don't think you can override it.

It won't be a constant 320, but rather it will go up
and down depending on the complexity of the audio being encoded. I
usually use CBR (constant bit rate) and 320 is the best setting possible for
mp3.

Sample rate - should be 44,100 Hz

Yes, stereo, unless you like listening to your music in mono. Some iPods
have trouble playing mono mp3 files.

Normal stereo.

Not sure about the last two settings, but the human ear cannot hear
frequencies below about 20 Hz, so you're safe to filter those low
frequencies out if you wish.

If I do, I am assuming I go to Highest Quality from the drop down menu...correct.

2) Sample Rate - Do I keep it on Auto or do I pick a KHz setting

3) Channels - I am assuming I pick "Stereo"

4) Stereo Mode ... Do I pick Normal or Joint Stereo.

Do that last two boxes get checked... They are: "Smart Encoding Adjustments" and "Filter Frequencies Below 10 Hz."

Thanks everyone.

-Jeff
