Doug, I could whip up this 45 edit from the LP version in
5 minutes. I have the LP version, all I need is a 45 dub
for reference.
I have an mp3 taken from the Gr. Hits CD so I know where
the 2 edits are in the intro. But this mp3 didn't rip
right, so it's missing the beginning and end of the file
so I have no reference for the fade-in or fade-out.

Thanks, Mark. While this helps, it also doesn't help at the same time (if that makes any sense). The 45 fades in, but in order to make the edit you
have to remove the five seconds of extra applause from the CD (then I assume fade in from there). Then from what I'm reading here, you need to add the
next eight seconds or so from the LP version to make the fadeout correct (and get a running time of (3:52), which is what Abagon reported is the correct
running time of the single).

Oy vey. You can come darn close to creating the 45 version by editing the version on the original Greatest Hits Volume I & II. By removing the first :05 of audience applause you will end up with an edit that is :03 shorter than the 45.

The original, non-remastered edition of Greatest Hits Volume I & II contains the live recording and is identified in the database as the 45 version. On this CD, however, the track fades in and fades out earlier than on the 45. The true 45 version can therefore not be recreated from this CD.

Good catch, mstgator!
I compared the commercial 45 with the "Songs In The Attic" LP.
On the LP, the Billy's vocal starts at :22.
On the 45, his vocal starts at :10.
Actually, the audiences' applause from the start on the 45 is shorter than the LP.

The database shows this song with a "length" distinction between LP and 45.
I have a dub of the 45, and the drum intro (before the piano and bass kick
in) sounds like it is only half as long as what's on the (live) LP. Should this be
a "version" distinction instead? (Also, the 45 fades in the crowd noise while
