The database should be updated accordingly to reflect that while Part 2 was listed, Part 1 got the airplay.

From Bob Moke: Jessie Hill’s “Ooh Poo Pah Doo” remains one of Billboard’s more curious anomalies, adding “Part 2” to the listing on both the Hot 100 and R&B printed charts. Part 2 was merely a repetitive two-minute mostly-instrumental track, while the actual vocal of the familiar song was on Part 1 and received the airplay. Both Cash Box and Music Vendor showed the charted title as simply “Ooh Poo Pah Doo” with no specific side noted.

Anyone want to chime in -- Paul Haney maybe?

It appears we may have another El Chicano "Viva Tirado" type situation here where there's dispute as to whether Part 1 or Part 2 is the true hit 45 side.

Edited by Todd Ireland

At least, that's the side I heard on Denver radio back in 1960, and at least two of Liberty Records' oldies comps from the 60s only feature Part One. And the hit was on Minit Records, which was distributed, and later acquired, by Liberty. I have to think they'd know which side was the right one.

GM

Does anyone have any info to back up this assertion? I always thought the instrumental was the hit (Part 2). With all the mixing up of the sides on different CDs I'm now thoroughly confused!
