Going on memory here, the UK 45 is the U.S. LP version with the first (2:00) removed. The U.S. 45 removes a lesser amount of the opening (so that it starts with the piano riff), but then makes a couple of edits in the rest of the opening. I believe everything's the same once Mellencamp's vocals kick in (there may be a difference in the fade). I tried doing the U.S. 45 edit and couldn't quite get it down.
