I have a couple from late '66 that are dark blue <br />type on a light blue label, shortly thereafter they went <br />to the yellowish-green labels we all know and love.<br />]]>

(As well as Capitol Records in <br />general, from '64 to '69 or so. I'm hoping that the Beatles' book Paul Haney <br />recommends will shed more light on it for me.)<br /><br />As it was a lower charter, I likely wouldn't have paid the premium price for an <br />Apple promo 45 of "Carolina On My Mind", even if I'd ever seen one. I believe <br />the earliest definite Apple promo 45 I own, that specifically says "Not For <br />Sale" on it, is early 1971's "Another Day" by Paul McCartney. I do have, <br />somewhere (I believe a bonus track on a "New Gold On CD" <br />disc) an edit of TWTD.  It's a very abrupt edit.<br /><br />I don't ever recall seeing a designated promo copy of any <br />early Apple 45s, just stock copies.  Jim, you're even more <br />of a promo-copy collector than I am...have you seen any <br />prior to 1970 or so (the earliest one in my collection is <br />James Taylor's "Carolina In My Mind")?]]>

Black Dyke Mills Band (Apple 1800), "Those Were The Days/Turn, Turn, Turn" by Mary Hopkin (Apple 1801) and "Sour Milk Sea/The Eagle Laughs At You" by Jackie Lomax (Apple 1802).  All four singles were released to the general public on the same day (August 26, 1968).<br /><br />Bruce Spizer's excellent book, <em>The Beatles on Apple Records</em> has the full story.]]>
