The phase issue has been in the mix since the original LP. It is present on every CD, be they the Deja Vu album or on various Greatest Hits offerings.

Mon compatibility was at the heart of the Q Sound system which led to its downfall. Since FM listening is done in cars the system designers were ignorant of, or ignored the fact that the car radios have built in features that automatically sum left and right channels depending on signal strength and also reduce high frequency content. These are done to reduce noise as signals grow weaker. As a demonstration of this I often play a stereo pressing of a song with a left-plus-right feed to a VU meter. I don't think so Aaron. It's been that way since the LP 'Deja Vu'.

You will notice the phase change by a few degrees on an edit before the last verse.

For a more wretched experience, try listening to it with your 'mono' switch on.

The 45 (the album's 2nd single) was a *Haeco-CSG processed mono master* to help minimize the treble change, but that wasn't too pristine either.

Maybe some first-pressing LPs were a little better, but I don't know.

Is there a good sounding copy of "Teach Your Children" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young? I have this on a couple CDs including "So Far," and it sounds like the tape heads were not aligned properly.
