My boss would ask me for a copy to listen to whenever one of the labels we distributed made a new artist's single a top priority, and Gloria had "Old Fashioned Boy" blaring on the promotion office's stereo over and over again. I figured it had to be destined to be a number one the way she pushed that record. Talk about a killer hook!

Oddly enough, I don't have any memory of hearing it on the radio, although I'm sure it must've been played somewhere in town, if not the region. That it ran out of gas just barely inside the top 40 really surprised me. Casablanca must've come up a few bucks short. ;)

My guess it was sourced from vinyl. Truth
is I heard it play on AT40 in April '77 once or twice during it's chart run
and never heard it again on the radio unless I played my 45. It would be
nice to get a nice clean copy on CD or worse case scenario a digital
download. I can dream can't I?

My mp3 must be the single version then.

I'll never forget hearing this song for the first time. I first got seriously into music (and American Top 40) in early 1979. Shortly after, I started researching to find out the songs that had hit the top 40 in the years prior to 1979. When I went through the charts of 1977, the title "Old Fashioned Boy (You're The One)" and the group name "Stallion" stuck with me for some reason, and I really wanted to hear it. I finally got my hands on a copy of the 45 in 1986 when the record store where I worked released a bunch of old 45s from the previous 15 years for sale in their stores. I was so excited to finally get to hear it - and then when I played it, I loved it! It's always been a sentimental favorite of mine. It's not a great song or record, but it's very typical of the pop music of the period, with a upbeat lead vocal and lyric. It's great to be among others who actually know and remember this forgotten record.

There are no mix differences, and the 45 is not faded any sooner than the LP.
