The 45 is actually a different mix, so you can't "fly in" the applause from the Foghat Live LP and have it exactly match the 45. For example, at the end of the last note on the LP mix, the audience is already applauding, and the cheering increases just a wee bit, as a high-pitched shriek is heard, then remains at the same level until it begins to fade.

Meanwhile, over on the 45, after the last note, it takes a second for most of the audience to realize that the song has finished. That same shriek is therefore more apparent, and then the applause and cheering begins to build for several seconds to a crescendo, before finally beginning to fade... more gradually than on the LP mix at first, then fading more steeply and out completely, before the equivalent LP applause has finished fading.

I don't have this song at all on CD, so will leave it to someone else to determine whether the "45 version" on CD is the actual 45 mix. Here's the easiest way to tell: on the stereo side of the vinyl DJ 45, when the bass and drum kick off the song after the faded-in applause, there is no singing underneath them or the following couple of notes, with the audience fairly subdued.

On the vinyl Foghat Live LP version, the tail end of Lonesome Dave's preceding vocal extends over those same couple of notes for a second, and the audience sounds about twice as animated.

If the 45 had been a straight edit of the LP mix, you would have heard a second of Dave's vocal lingering over the first couple of guitar notes after the faded-in applause. But it's mixed out of the single.

there is a 'live' cd version that runs 8:34 and is listed
as the 'lp version'......can that be used to re-construct

The live version that runs over eleven minutes is not the
"hit" version. All I have on CD is the live edit that

jim, funny you posted this entry.....last week before going
on vacation i reviewed this song but didn't get around to
posting my findings.......you are correct.....the cd's
which contain the so called '45 version' are actually faded
early during the ending applause......the vinyl 45 fades
for 0:08 from 3:48-3:56.....while my cdr version containing
the so called '45 version' actually fades for 0:07 from
3:42-3:49....question is......can either of the cd's
containing the 11:22 live version be edited properly to re-
create the true vinyl 45 version with the longer applause
ending included?.....my guess is that i can.....anyone have

Since Foghat's "I Just Want to Make Love to You" is a "live" recording, I'd be willing to bet the CD appearances of the 45 version trim some of the beginning and/or ending audience applause heard on the vinyl 45. Nonetheless, this is valuable info for unapologetic "45 purists" like myself who want the entire applause intact!

My commercial 45, confirmed as Bearsville 0319, with handwritten deadwax
of "VNY-1349-S-WW1", has both a listed and actual time of (3:56). I only
post this info because the five current db CDs including this song, that
