Very interesting! I wasn’t aware of the instrumental intro version until I read
about it here. I checked my Ron Furmanek “Legendary Masters Series” and,
sure enough it doesn’t begin with a cold vocal start like the 45. It has a brief
count-off intro. Ron’s version runs a little longer than the 45. The inst. intro
is about 11 seconds and the ending runs about 13 seconds longer than the
45, so all together it about 24 seconds longer.

Ron sure did a good job on the Bobby Vee Legendary Masters Series. It

I'm reasonably confident that all "Come Back..." vinylreleases started with the cold vocal opening; the instrumental opening was a CD era Ron Furmanek remix fromthe session multitrack.

Thanks for that information. The cold intro was on the 1965 parent LP. One of those oddities where the 45 version was longer than the
LP.

The only version of this that I was aware of pre-CD era was the one with the cold intro. I don't have the
parent LP of this, but I do have the song on a 1968-vintage Liberty VA comp, and it's the same cold intro

my commercial 45 for the tom jones song 'what's new
pussycat?' issued as parrot 9765 lists a run time on the
label as 2:15 but actually runs 2:18 like most of the mono
45 versions listed in the db.....this 45 run time info s/b
