(I'm assuming that what's on the Edsel/UK release of the "Heaven On Earth" CD - the bonus cut labeled as 'I Get Weak (7")' is ACTUALLY the UK one and not the US one. And it probably is because the CD was released in the UK.) Comparing these two versions, they are the same edit as each other, the same mix as each other (and the album version). The only difference is that the UK single version is both a little slower and has an extra little bit of music at the end not on the US sv.

For such a minute difference, I'm surprised Edsel would include both versions on their upcoming box set.

Otherwise, we're getting 2 versions of this song which are (probably) exactly the same except that one is 1.5 seconds longer (which seems somewhat pointless). I don't have the US sv on anything, so I can't compare the single edits, but that's the way it's looking (as far as US sv and UK sv).

Edited by EdisonLite

    Author: EdisonLite
Subject: 7657
Posted: 18 July 2015 at 5:28pm

I just checked my Edsel/UK CD "Heaven On Earth", which obviously has the album version but also what they label the 7" version. Since this was released in the UK, I assume that this is the UK 7" version, whether it matches the US 7" or not. So I checked the LP and single version that are both on this disc, and they are the same mix as far as I can tell. But the single is edited and shorter than the album version. That said, the single version clocks in at just a hair over 4:13, and clearly from the posts above, the US single is actually 4:11. So I wonder if this is edited differently, or just faded slightly later.

elcoleccionista, has the B-side of the US 12" - the version labeled as the 7" version but also a remix by Shep Pettibone - been released on CD as of this date?

BTW, this "Heaven On Earth" Edsel UK CD has as bonus cuts the 12" version (7:29) remixed by Shep Pettibone, and something called the "Romantic Mix" (6:19) also remixed by Shep. Where this 2nd version came from, in terms of original vinyl, UK or US or otherwise, I have no idea. But timing-wise doesn't sound like the B-side that elcoleccionista describes above.

Edited by EdisonLite

On the US 12" single there is a so called 7"
version on the B side. This is actually a remix created by Shep
Pettibone and cannot be recreated using the 12" version, also
commissioned to him. This calls for confusion as the exactly
labelled 7" version found on the US 7" single and several of her
compilations is simply an edit of the LP version. I would be
interested to find out if track 2 of this promo CD is this remix, but
from crapfromthepast's post, it looks like that is just a different edit
of the album version. The 7" remix on the 12" vinyl has the same
edit structure used on that second track from the promo CD.

Edited by elcoleccionista

Does anyone know the difference between the UK 7" version and US 7" version of "I Get Weak"? They are BOTH being included on the upcoming box set (on the same CD single) so there must be a difference.

Also, what are the differences between the US 45 and US LP? Is it mixed differently, or just edited?

    Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 7657
Posted: 02 September 2013 at 5:15pm

The LP mix runs about 4:50, and 103.4 BPM throughout; it's a live drummer playing with a click track.

The LP version on Her Greatest Hits (1992) runs 4:50, and sounds just fine to my ears. There are other CDs that use the same analog transfer as Her Greatest Hits:

Razor & Tie's 2-CD Forever '80s (1993)

Time-Life's 2-CD Body Talk Vol. 5 Sealed With A Kiss (1996; differently EQ'd digital clone of Forever '80s)

Madacy's Rock On 1988 (1996; digitally exactly 2 dB louder than Her Greatest Hits)

Razor & Tie's 2-CD Make You Sweat (1998)

I've noticed a minor trend that the second single from an '80s LP gets remixed (ex: "We Got The Beat", "Promises Promises", "We Live For Love") In keeping with that trend, MCA commissioned Shelly Yakus to do the remix for the 45. The 45 mix really isn't too different from the LP mix. It runs a tiny bit faster, at 104.4 BPM throughout.

The promo CD single MCA CD45-17459 (1987) included two unlabeled versions of the song:

printed 3:58, actual 4:11 - is same as commercial 45 version

printed 4:40, actual 4:34, 45 mix but mimics song structure of the LP - 32 extra beats from 3:27 to 3:46 of this version are cut out to make the commercial 45 version

I haven't seen the 4:34 45 on any CD other than this CD single. The following CDs use the same analog transfer as track 1 of the promo CD single:

Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 10 1988 (1995)

Time-Life's 2-CD Classic Soft Rock Vol. 10 Heat Of The Moment (2007)

The 4:11 45 mix is also on MCA's rare promo 4-CD MCA Hits Sampler Vol. 1 (1988).

There's a homemade edit of the LP mix that mimics the commercial 45 on swaitek's promo 50-CD The A List Disc 41 (1994). I suspect that this was done by TM Century. Avoid.

Edited by crapfromthepast
