I have "High Enough" from Damn Yankees (the 45 version) on
a Monster Ballads CD and it's missing the opening breath.
Good news, though, I came across a copy of the 45 version
that HAS the opening breath on a T-L Box Set. For Jack

"High Enough" is a good pick! Hadn't gotten that 45 off the shelf since probably 1992 or so.

My nomination fell short of the pop top 40 (#69) but did manage a #35 AC showing in 1980: Karla Bonoff's "Baby Don't Go."

Speaking of that "getting stupid" notion: while on one of those typical daisy-chain YouTube journeys a few hours ago, I came across a posting of an Every Brothers song that the poster listed as the original version of "The Air That I Breath." (sic):

The album version doesn't have the breath; it has a musical intro instead.

Funny you should mention that, David. I had an idea after getting Ed's response last night: a 99-track compilation CD, titled Every Breath You Take, comprised of nothing but the opening breaths from all the singles which had left them intact.

Imagine how many clearance hoops there would be to jump through. Then there's the matter of finding the best tape sources, having to decide to go with mono or stereo...

Still, the inital reactions from all those licensing people would be so worth it:

"You want to... what?"

makes me wonder, when CDs are mastered, do engineers hear such a breath
and think "why is that there" then trim it off, then years later, we 45 purists
learn that the 45 had it, so we want it! john, (yah shure) was kind enough to forward me a copy of
his cd version with the count-off.....if you edit the first
:02.10 seconds and capture the breath before the songs
starts, you can effectively re-create the true vinyl 45
