You mean Lushus Daim & The Pretty Vain? They/she did exist and
were signed to Motown. She had a turntable hit on Detroit radio with
The One You Love. Haven't thought of that song in years. Plenty of
stock copies of the single and album on Ebay to purchase so she
couldn't have been too obscure for folks to find back then....

Curiously, how do you handle situations like this at RR?
Technically, if it "charted", it should be in the books but
if it's in fact a bogus song you're perpetuating an
untruth. I realize that many reference sources plant the
occasional "easter egg" to snag plagiarists, but seems like
no matter what you do, cred is lost.

Speaking of mystery acts, this never charted anywhere to my
knowledge, but I remember seeing ads in Billboard in the
mid-ish 80s for a group called Lucious Daim & the Pretty
Vain. Ads were kind of vague, but ran for several weeks
only to get pulled after they printed several letters to
the editor accusing them of running an ad for a non-
existent artist.

Anyone know the story on this?

This looks like another "Ready 'N' Steady" situation. For those not familiar with that one...on June 16, 1979, Billboard charted a song on the Bubbling Under chart titled "Ready 'N' Steady" by an artist called D.A. on the Rascal label (Rascal 102). For years Record Research hunted for any information regarding that record and came up with nothing. The song never appeared in any other trade at the time (not even the Record World 50-position Bubbling Under chart)! Paul, I have just finished an exhaustive and complete research sweep for
you on this Cashbox charter, using title/artist/catalog # info details, both
together and separately. I dusted off many old tricks I'd come with up
during my 10 years at a "previous music research stop" (inside joke
between Paul and I; forgive me.) And I 100% concur with your conclusion,
Mr. Haney. That this listed title never, in fact, ever truly existed. (FYI, I'll
make sure my order for this new, Record Research-issued Cashbox book
is in before next month's RR early-bird offer ends - gotta take care of the
loved ones' Christmas presents this month!)

There is a song that charted on Cash Box that we can't find ANY additional information on:

Mother Tone - Truce - Voodoo Music 127077

It charted on August 15, 1992, peaked at #90 and charted for 2 weeks.

We suspect that it may have been a plant. Has anyone here EVER seen a copy (45/cassette/CD)???
