You can actually hear the bass guitar and drums, which are pretty buried on the LP and 45 mixes. But yes, the first verse is wonky, and some of the other instrumentation is completely lost on the remix.

Edited by aaronk

The beefier bass was welcome, but the wonky first verse was most definitely not. Still, it was better than the out-of-phase "Creeque Alley" on that same CD. That was one of the first things I heard on a new oldies competitor's first day in the format.

The AM Gold version also has the lead guitar and piano very, very far back in the mix. In some places, you can barely hear the piano. The percussion and bass guitar are brought forward quite a bit in this mix.

I do not own any vinyl LPs, but the 45 definitely has a double-tracked first verse. Hopefully Pat can sort out the various CDs with the different stereo mixes.
