Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 8025
Posted: 02 April 2014 at 8:50pm

The Jacksons tried duplicating the 1979 success of "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" with 1980's "Lovely One". It was a top 15 hit at the time, but evaporated soon after, and forever remains in the shadow of the far better 1979 hit.

We don't have many choices on CD for "Lovely One". There's 2004's Essential, which uses low-generation source tapes but is far too loud (a good example of brickwalling). The other alternative is Triumph, and I'm not sure if the album was rereleased/remastered at some point. My copy clips a tiny bit (probably a remaster), but sounds very good. Both are the LP version, running about 4:52.

The 45 turns out to be an easy edit of the LP version. As fate would have it, the timings for both CDs work out the same, so you can use the timings below for either disc as a source.

Segment 1:
Extends from 0:00.0 to 2:48.2 of the 45 edit and the LP version.
Ends on a downbeat - if you start counting 1, 2, 3, 4 with 1 on the true 32-beat-count downbeat, then this segment ends on 5.

Remove the 32 beats from 2:48.2 to 3:04.0 of the LP version.

Segment 2:
27 beats long.
Extends from 2:48.2 to 3:01.5 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 3:04.0 to 3:17.3 of the LP version.
Ends on a snare hit.

Remove the 96 beats from 3:17.3 to 4:04.8 of the LP version.

Segment 3:
Begins on a snare hit.
Extends from 3:01.5 to 3:48.5 (end) of the 45 edit.
Extends from 4:04.8 to 4:51.8 (end) of the LP version.

The LP fade remains intact for the 45 edit.

Your mixdown will run 3:48.5, with edits at 2:48.2 and 3:01.5.

Essential fades out to zero, Triumph extends out farther than Essential but truncates the fade.

Edited by crapfromthepast
