I was working in top 40 radio at the time, and I don't remember our station playing the song for more than a couple weeks. It peaked at #18 on the Radio & Records CHR/Pop chart, and it was only on the chart for 7 weeks. Having once worked in radio, my guess would have been
length. Perhaps, some stations complained one way or the
other and said, if the song was shorter in length, they
might add it. So, the label issued the special edit.
