Author: JL328
Subject: 8703
Posted: 16 February 2017 at 5:07am

I don't know much about Tory Lanez, except that he's a rapper from Toronto
who's had some kind of issue with Drake, but I can provide some info on his
two top 40 hits.

Luv--

For the Now 60 compilation, the database says that Luv is a "previously
unreleased censored version" running 3:45. I think this is actually the
"censored single version" or "censored digital download version" or
however we might want to identify it.

In June 2016, Lanez released Luv as a digital download in both censored
and uncensored versions, running 3:45. It ended cold with a little laugh.
The uncensored version of this digital download version is what's on the
video.

In August 2016, Lanez released his full LP, "I Told You" and Luv was the last
track, running 4:09 in both the censored and uncensored versions. But it
was the same track as the digital single--- it ended cold with the laugh at
3:45 but then the music file carried on with a rewinding sound effect for the
next 24 seconds, ending with a click of a tape recorder at 4:09. I guess the
joke was supposed to be that, since Luv is the last track of the LP, it's
supposed to sound like the CD was "rewinding" and then would start over.
So, this rewinding effect wasn't really part of the song, but is part of the LP
track. iTunes and the other online retailers pulled the 3:45 "single version"
of Luv some time after the full album's release.

When they did the Now 60 compilation, it seems like they just used the
censored version of the digital download, which makes sense since
listeners of a compilation wouldn't understand the rewinding effect (and
probably wouldn't want to listen to it for 24 seconds while waiting for the
next track anyway). So, unless I'm missing something in the way the song is
censored (looks like there is actually only one censorship point), the version
of Luv on Now 60 seems to be the previously released "censored digital
single version."

Say It--

Similar story with "Say It." The digital single version was 3:55 and had a
natural ending (a quick fade) at that point. The LP version is the same track
but starts over at 3:55, after the song goes silent, with 32 seconds of a fake
interview intro into the next track, which happens to be Luv. So, the LP file
runs 4:26 instead of 3:55. This digital single also was pulled after the
album's release.

The digital single versions of both songs are no longer available but they
can be re-created simply by cutting off the extraneous material from the
end of each LP version.
