It does have a little bit of stereo separation, especially during the bridge where they sing "the future's open wide". Eric Records' "Hard to Find 45s on CD, Vol. 16" has a wider stereo version of it, and the later re-recordings and remixes of it are full stereo as well.

Wham!'s "Freedom" (not to be confused with George Michael's "Freedom '90") is also nearly mono, but has a bit of stereo separation on the drums. Same thing with Billy Joel's "My Life" -- it's almost mono except for the drums and a little bit of reverb.

The version of Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" (not in the database, but it was a Top 40 hit in 1999) that is on the U.S. "NOW 2" CD is 3:24, is purely mono, and starts with a vinyl crackling effect. It's the same way on the Top Hits USA T466 radio CD. But if you look it up online now, the "Radio Edit" of it you can find is 3:47, in stereo, and lacks the vinyl surface noise during the intro. Maybe that was the UK radio edit, but it's not what I recall hearing on U.S. radio.
Both had the same mix, which was essentially mono.

I don't have the credits handy, but I think this is one of the songs that George Michael played drums on. (Real live drums, not a machine.) It could be that they chose to not call attention to the drumming, and buried the drums in the mono mix. That's pure speculation on my part, based on how prominent the drums are in "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper".
