I listened to the 12" version, and yeah, I hear it, too. Since Aaron points out that this is more of a "person accidentally hitting the fader for a half a second" situation, I've sometimes taken a dropout (especially when it's just on one side) and successfully raised it - where it's no longer noticeable. Probably about a 50% success rate. When there's really nothing there and I raise the section that needs to be filled in, I get nothing but "noise" raised and it sounds worse than before. However, if the music is fully there, but just lowered, I can raise it and often make it sound "normal".

I can try this approach, if anyone would like it.

At 1:10, the volume in the left channel dips down for about a half-second, but it doesn't sound like a dropout. It sound like someone literally dropped down the channel fader for about a half second. A true dropout sounds like there is tape damage, causing mainly the high frequencies to "drop out." Looking at it in spectral view, it also doesn't look like there is any "damage" to any of the frequencies like you would see with tape damage or a true dropout. It just seems like someone hit the volume fader down and up really quick. Tim I listened to both of those cd's at 1:10 and do not hear the dropout. I even visually looked at both channels waveform at that point and do not see a dropout either. I have the 12" single version of "Native New Yorker" on two
CD's: RCA 7639 Dance! Dance! Dance! and Rhino 72837
Disco Queens: The 70's. On both of these discs,
there is a left-channel dropout at 1:10.This dropout is
also present on my stock yellow label RCA 12" single. I
think this dropout is significant enough to be noted in the
database.

Oddly enough, I've heard a YT upload (long since deleted)
of a 12" white label promo where this dropout is NOT
present. This makes me hopeful that the version without the
