For what it's worth, that's the logic that has always been used in the database, and it does make sense. That said, we don't always say that "single version" means "hit version." Those can be quite different, as you've pointed out in your examples. Obviously, that rule is... imperfect at best. As I said on another thread, using that logic will create... confusion. If you follow that very narrow definition, then the Live Version of You Oughta Know is the single version, while either of the Todd Terry mixes of The Cardigans' "Lovefool" would be considered the single version.

The way we've always viewed "single version" on this forum (which includes Pat's "45 version" designation) is that it has to be commercially available on the single. Technically, the "Edit" would be a promo only version or "DJ edit" (as Pat calls it). For database purposes, the single version and LP version are the same.

As far as I know, the single version of "Two Princes", dubbed 'Edit', was only included on the U.S. Promo CD Single (it's also included on the music video). All worldwide commercial singles include the 'Album Version'.
