Years: Hits, Remixes & Rarities featuring
12" versions and new remixes that were faithful to the
original sound. It really started a whole movement of
going back to the masters and making a new dance
version. Tom Moulton and John Morales later got
involved with similar projects and those titles were
worth seeking out which was something in the past I
wouldn't consider.
Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 9176
Posted: 15 October 2019 at 7:46am

"Found A Cure" peaked at #36 in late 1979. While 1985's "Solid" still gets some airplay on oldies specialty shows, "Found A Cure" has long since been forgotten.

LP version

The LP version appears on Capitol's Capitol Gold The Best Of (1993). Here, it runs 7:02, and clips a lot due to excessive compression/limiting.

The version on Rhino's 2-CD Video Soul (1995) is digitally exactly 1.43 dB quieter than Capitol Gold. We don't have many choices for the LP version on CD compilations.

45 version

The 45 version appears on Rhino's Disco Years Vol. 7 (1995) and Rhino's Didn't It Blow Your Mind Vol. 20 (1995). Both are digitally identical, and I'm not sure which appeared first. Here, it runs 3:43 and sounds great, with nice dynamic range, nice EQ, and seemingly low-generation source tapes. The following CDs use the same analog transfer as Disco Years Vol. 7 and Didn't It Blow Your Mind Vol. 20:

Time-Life's Solid Gold Soul Vol. 15 1979 (1997) - differently EQ'd digital clone

Simitar's Number Ones Soul On Fire (1998) - digitally identical

45 version with the first eight beats cut off

This seems to be a mastering error.

It first appeared on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 19 1979 Take Two (1991), where it runs 3:41. There's a digital clone on Time-Life's 2-CD Uptown Saturday Night Rock Steady (2007), where it's about 3 dB louder and likely adds a small amount of compression/limiting.

My recommendations

There's not much choice here, so grab whatever CDs you can find with "Found A Cure", except Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 19 1979 Take Two and Uptown Saturday Night Rock Steady, both of which cut off the first eight beats of the song.
