and they played just the Doja Cat version. The Hot 100
lists the remix yet Nielsen and Mediabase just list Doja

I tend to go with a general rule of thumb though and what is generally popular and had more lasting impact. If the remix (like S & M) of Doja Cat drops fast then the original version should be the one that is listed. The only time the remix should replace the original for the go to version is if its popularity and weeks at a higher chart position are crystal clear (think Perfect which had more weeks at #1 then the non-Beyonce version, and Despacito which was not even at top 40 hit without Justin, or Old Town Road, which had 1 week at #1 until Billy jumped on (which now is the clear winner with 18 more #1 weeks to its credit!).

I agree with Paul though Nicki Minaj essentially makes it a whole new song. To not give it its own chart run as its own song isn't a proper reflection at all of the original Doja Cat single...

I wish Billboard would treat them as separate entries, but
they don't. The problem with calling one the "hit"
version over the other is that Billboard combines the
points, so we don't know how big of a split there really
is, we only know by the billing which one has more points

Just this week on Billboard, Doja Cat hit #1 with the help of a Nicki Minaj remix for Say So and Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce on Savage hit #2.

It's been quite interesting to note the trend of remixes propelling a song to #1 or lengthening its stay:

Perfect by Ed Sheeran with Beyonce added on a few weeks into its run...

Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee adding on Justin Bieber into its run..

Old Town Road by Lil Nas X adding Billy Ray Cyrus and other versions of its remix to stay at #1 for the other 18 weeks

Rihanna adding Britney Spears on S & M to climb from #2 to #1 finally

Britney adding Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj to Til The World Ends to go from #9 to #3 on Billboard

So it comes back to an age old argument I've wondered about, if the remix is short lived but got the song a higher chart position wouldn't the original version of Say So by Doja Cat be the hit version?
