It appears that Clearmountain did an extended remix issued as US Promo 12" AS 920 (per Discogs -- sorry, the link is acting up when I try to add it to my post), but I haven't seen a single 45 of this song that mentions him. I can't prove it, but I'll bet this is a case where someone had barely enough information to be dangerous, and added that credit to Discogs in error.

Hi Doug -

Yes, the version on Just Can't Get Enough is the original "hit" version that was a single in 1981, and the one that likely be the most familiar to the average listener. In the UK, it was issued as a single only and not included on the Mondo Bongo album on Mercury Records; however, the later U.S. CD release of Mondo Bongo on Columbia Records (probably out of print now, but not hard to find second-hand) contains this track as #12.

I own this original "hit" version on the U.S.-only 1987 Columbia Records Greatest Hits CD. It's quiet, and probably a little brighter/thinner than the Just Can't Get Enough mastering, but it sounds great when you crank the volume.

FYI, there also exists a 2005 remaster of Mondo Bongo, but it uses the original UK tracklist and does not contain "Up All Night" at all.

The version that appeared later on the album V Deep, as you said, is either a re-recording or a drastic remix, and IMO, pales in comparison to the original. The extended version you mentioned only appears on the 2005 remaster of V Deep.

Doug, I can confirm that the track on the Rhino Just Can't Get Enough Vol. 4 CD matches what's on the DJ 45.

Those are the only two sources on which I have the song, but there is a Columbia Mondo Bongo US CD release listed on discogs. Although there's no notation on the disc face or back cover, someone added that "Up All Night" on this CD is a Bob Clearmountain mix. But there's no such designation on my copy of the DJ 45.

OK, this was not a top-40 hit (or I believe even a Hot 100 hit), but it's a song a lot of people seem to be rediscovering because Jim Rome uses it a
lot as a music bumper on his radio show.

However, I want to make sure I'm not confused here. It appears there are three different versions of the song "out there." One is what I would
guess to be the U.S. single/LP version on the Rhino Just Can't Get Enough series (I believe Volume 4). Unfortunately, that seems to be the
only place one could find this version (as the original LP it was off of [Mondo Bongo] I don't believe is on CD).

The other two are from the V Deep album--one runs the same length but is either remixed or rerecorded (I'm not exactly sure), and another is a
much longer version.
