Gene, if you'd only glanced at the two posts before yours, you've have seen
mine/Todd's detailed promo/stock 45 findings for the song. I know that it is
just *so* tempting to see some details in print (places like Wikipedia, etc)
and think they just might be true, after all. Reading something in print
seems to somehow lend credibility to a statement, doesn't it? Weird.
Happens to me, too. For basic, common knowledge stuff, Wiki's usually OK -
I use it for that all the time, with good results. But for more advanced topic
specifics, like song/version details, I'd confidently put its reliability as very,
very, very poor/borderline awful. If you see the details posted here, however,
take it to the bank - they're correct. Stay strong, Gene! Resist the "bogus info
gremlins", buddy!   :)

I know Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source for information, but they make me nervous with this post about "Alive & Kicking" here:

Alive & Kicking Length
4:47 (single version)
4:33 (radio version)
5:26 (album version)

For the Alive & Kicking DJ length to be listed in the database, I can only assume somebody had the Alive & Kicking DJ single; is there any chance there's another Alive & Kicking DJ single edit that actually takes it down to 4:33?

(I could find no trace of such an Alive & Kicking promo on Discogs, so of course I'm suspicious of this "information.")

Abagon reports the actual and printed commercial 45 run time of Simple Minds' "Sanctify Yourself" is 4:57, which exactly mirrors Ed's 45 run time info from earlier in this thread. Pat, you might want to add the commercial 45 timing info to the database since there is currently only a mention of the DJ 45 run time.

Yes, Todd, you are correct. In fact, both sides of my promo 45 have the actual (3:54) version on it (listed on the 45 as 3:55). Deadwax A&M-AM-02810-AA-S-ES2. States "Edited Version". I also have a question for anyone who might have a DJ 45 copy of "Sanctify Yourself" (Jim?). Does it by any chance contain the 3:54 version found on Simple Minds' Glittering Prize CD (A&M 314540052)? That disc does contain the DJ 45 edit of "Alive and Kicking" so I wouldn't be surprised if the 3:54 version of "Sanctify Yourself" is really a DJ edit as well. Currently, the database just states that this 3:54 edit is "neither the 45 or LP version". Forgive me for questioning your policy on this again, Pat, but why do you feel it would not work to eliminate the (45 version) and (LP version) comments for "Sanctify Yourself" and instead simply make a comment next to the Once Upon a Time CD entry that the song tracks into the next selection? As a reader I just find that the (45 version) and (LP version) comments are misleading in cases like this one.

This is another case of the LP version tracking into the next selection on the US issue of "Once Upon a Time" and by my definition this qualifies as an LP version. If you fade the LP version 1 or 2 seconds early you will get what I call the 45 version. the db seems to have this entry wrong....my 45 issued as a&m 2819 states the run time as 4:57 and indeed runs that length and is identical to the version from the import cd "the best of simple minds" that runs 4:57....i believe it is the same as the version that is on the cd "once upon a time"...so it this instance the lp version and the 45 are the same.....the entry as is would lead one to believe the 4:57 "lp version" is DIFFERENT than the 45, which is not the case.......
