LP version (5:17)

The LP version starts with three drumbeats.

I have the LP version on the following CDs, all of which use the same analog transfer (almost certainly from the In The Blood CD, but I can't confirm), but they're no digital clones of one another:

• the jukebox-only CD Hot Hits Pop Vol. 4 (1991)
• Warner Special Products' 2-CD Rockin' USA (1994)
• Time-Life's Sounds Of The '90s 1991 (2001) - absolute polarity inverted from above two (means that the waveform looks upside down); insignificant

All of the above sound about the same, with huge dynamic range, no clipping, decent EQ, and no added noise reduction.

US single version (3:49)

The US had phased out vinyl 45s in favor of cassette singles by 1990/91, so the official US single release is on cassette.

The single version starts with the same three drumbeats as the LP version.

It matches the LP version until a downbeat around 3:15, on the syllable "think", and differs after that. You can't edit the single version down from the LP version.

I have the single version on the following CDs, all of which use the same analog transfer; I don't know the source:

• TM Century track no. 00005150 (shouldn't this have been a Van Halen song?) - cuts off opening three drumbeats, and therefore is the promo CD single version
• Sony Germany's 2-CD Mega Dance Party '92 (1992) - shortens tail of fade by about three seconds
• Time-Life's 2-CD Sounds Of The '90s (2000) - absolute polarity inverted from other two; insignificant
• Eric's Hard To Find 45s On CD Vol. 16 More 80s Essentials And Beyond (2012) - differently-EQ'd digital clone of TM Century library (but includes opening drumbeats) and German disc (but doesn't fade early)

The Eric disc sounds great for this track, includes the opening drumbeats, and doesn't fade early.

(US) promo CD single version (3:48)

It's basically the single version, with the opening three beats cut off.

As far as I can tell, it appears only on the promo CD single and TM Century track no. 00005150.

You can easily edit this one yourself by trimming the opening three drumbeats off the single version and starting on the downbeat.

Outlier?

EMI Virgin PolyGram UK's 2-CD Now 1990 (1993) has the LP version faded way early to 3:32. I don't know if that's what was on the UK 45. posted it on YouTube, so I'm not sure where you'd get
it. I looked around a little online and didn't see

1) The 1991 CD promo has which version, the one with the beat opening, or the normal one without beats

2) Is this 12 inch extended version available anywhere on CD...its beyond awesome. Makes whatever was on the promos/commercial singles lame in comparison
