That's interesting, Bill. I don't think I've ever come across a copy that had the 3:10 on both sides. Im only aware of the three mentioned here. We played the 3:33 version in Albany
which I believe was the first promo. Then a second promo came in that was 3:10 on
both sides (labeled specially edited intro) Then finally we got one that was 3:10 on one side and 2:51 on
the other. (labeled no intro) I figured the next week we'd get a 2:30 one!

I hope this won't add to the confusion
here, but I seem to recall a version on
the radio that was basically the same as
the album version, but cut out the lines
"I have danced inside your eyes, how can I
be real". I don't recall anything else
being cut from it, so it wouldn't be the
3:10 or 2:51 versions that were already
mentioned. Does anyone else recall hearing
the song with just those two lines cut? I
suppose if it's not on any official promo,
it may have just been an in-house edit
from the station(s) I heard it on.

So from what I can see, the 3:10 version halves the soft intro. Is that correct? If that's the case, I've never EVER heard that version anywhere. Interesting though.

Although Pat DOES have all three later editions/re-issues of this song's original parent album, 1982's Kissing to Be Clever, currently listed in the on-line database (Virgin 91390 & 86179 & 92404), I noticed that he's actually missing the original (and rarest) U.S. version, which came out circa 1984-85, on Virgin/Epic EK 38398. Just the opposite up my way. Almost everyone (including
where I worked) played the 2:51 version. WHTT in Boston
played the album version, but edited the intro so it was
like the 2:51 edit. That's the version that ended up on
TM GoldDiscs (or at least the one I have the song on).

I'm not sure of the purpose of the 3:10 edit, the edit
sounds clunky and abrupt. Only ever heard that one on
the air once or twice on a soft AC.

of this single...a stock 3:33, a promo 3:33, a stock 4:23
and a promo 2:51/3:10. I wasn't aware that the 3:33
version was rare.

Thanks for the response, Jim... and I'm with you: knocking off the entire intro never seemed right.

Looking back, I think we made the right choice, as to the version. But, as
it the case so often, I believe that personal preference comes from
whatever version you happen to have heard most, and gotten used to, at
the time. In other words, it's very subjective, and based on each
individual's personal memories - with no real "right" or "wrong" answer.

Does anybody remember playing either the 3:10 or 2:51 edits on the radio, or remember hearing a station play either edit?

The 3:34 sounds like what was played around here, but I typically play the shortest DJ edit available on BlackLight Radio... I'm having a hard time talking myself into further slicing and dicing on this one.
