Okay ... I've downloaded it [the YCD Unmixed file]. The good news is that while from just looking at the waveform, it looks like there's some limiting and compression going, it does not suffer from the egregious/distorted bass boosting that has plagued some of Madonna's recent digital reissues. The bad news is this thing is shrillllll. I'm working on re-EQ'ing and the low end is definitely in there somewhere, but it's taking a surprising amount of treble reduction to get to it. Just FYI. Definitely fixable, I think.

That is unbelievably cool. Thanks for sharing, Brian. Just wanted to confirm I have located it for download via Qobuz US this morning.

For anyone curious: yes, the Pettibone mix of "Into the Groove" has appeared on some import CD singles before, but on those versions, you could clearly hear overlapped audio at the beginning from the last seconds of "Over and Over", as well as the segue into "Where's the Party" at the end. The version released yesterday is truly standalone with no overlap and a cold ending. With all my might, I wish they would do this for the other YCD tracks!

The "You Can Dance Unmixed Full Version" and "Dub Version" of "Into the Groove" have just been released on a Digital EP of "Into the Groove." Weirdly, I only see it on streaming services. But I'm sure that will change.

If I recall Over and Over from the 1984 Like A Virgin album also was played and Dress You Up was also a top 5 hit in the U.S. Like a Virgin got massive airplay and hit #1 in late 1984 and was also huge on radio in early '85!

It still baffles the mind how a guaranteed hit such as Into the Groove is not promoted as a single in 1985 or even early 1986. That and Back In Time by Huey Lewis and The News are MAJOR hits that could have easily been top 10. Not charting these huge hits would never happen in 2021 with the way Billboard has it set up now.

From the initial release of "Everybody", Madonna was
absolutely huge in mainstream dance clubs. Major
records included "Physical Attraction", "Lucky Star"
almost a year before it was worked CHR, LP cuts like
"Think Of Me" and "Over And Over", etc.

As big in the clubs as the Michael Jackson phenomenon
was in 1979-1983.

Oddly enough, the exact same thing happened in Canada.
The Canadian record company didn't release it as a
domestic single (I ended up buying a UK import that a
lot of stores carried), but it was released on an
oldies series/reissue, also with "Dress You Up" on the
B-side (label no. Sire GS 45207 - the GS stands for
their gold standard series).

It was quite common at that time for Canadian labels

Mike, All of our "Oldies" (anything not currently on the
Billboard charts) had the Artist, A-side, B-side, and
stock
number on a 7" X 8" 'Stock' card that we used to keep
track of how many sold and when. This gave us an idea on
how
many to order, etc. We considered 'Dress You Up' as a 'B'
side of a more superior selling 'Into the Groove'. -Bill.
