Regarding that rearranged 7" DJ edit in the YouTube link
above, isn't that 10 second instrumental intro unique,
meaning that it is nowhere to be found in the LP version?
Perhaps the promo 45 version really does start with this
10-second instrumental? In other words, where did this
unique instrumental come from (perhaps other than the
actual promo 45)? Or, am I missing something?

Never mind. The "instrumental/dub" version starts with that
10-second instrumental audio.

That's correct. thank you for the info. I am starting to think the 3:30
label was incorrect and all versions have the long 1 minute
or so intro with vocals and piano and the stations queued
past it. Would make a pretty short song 2:50 or so. I

I have three stock copies, all pressed on styrene, all with a listed time of 3:30. The actual run time is 3:46, and the song starts with just vocals and piano. I don't have a promo 45, so it might be worth checking to be sure. The label on the promo, though, shows the same matrix as the stock 45: VND D71 AS. The deadwax on two of my stock 45s is VND D71 A PRC-1-2-1-1 [MASTERING BY FRANKFORD/WAYNE NEW YORK] ˘. My third copy has the same matrix, but instead of 1-2-1-1 it has 1-2-4-2.

The version on CD that runs about 3:50 is the same as the 45 but runs a couple seconds longer and has a different fade. The 45 begins fading at 3:33 and has a more gradual/smooth fade than CD copies. The copy on Time-Life's Uptown Saturday Night, for example, starts the fade at 3:36 and dumps out pretty quickly at the end of the fade.

It should be noted that the Jocelyn Brown album on Spotify, which has the 6:26 (presumably) LP version, also has a 3:49 "Radio Mix" as a bonus track. This is NOT the same edit found on the stock 45. Most notably, there are additional ad-libs starting at around 3:37 that aren't heard on the stock 45. These ad-libs are on the corresponding section of the LP version, so it appears someone tried re-creating the 45 edit and failed.

Thank you for the Youtube link. At first I though that
might be it. I've seen that video before but there is a
note that it is a re-edit by the person who posted it,
DJGibs. Hopefully someone on the chat board has the dj
vinyl single and can let me know the track duration on both
sides.

Somebody Else's Guy stalled on BB charts at position 75 but
was a substantial hit in the NY market in 1984. Does
anyone have the promo 45? All single versions I have
encountered on cd clock in around 3:50 with the long intro.
The stock and promo version clock in at 3:30 (according to
the label on Discogs). The version I heard on NY radio
stations especially Z-100 back then did not start with the
long intro that is on the LP and 3:50 single version. It
may have been an in house edit but if not, I would want to
track down the promo 45. Any info is appreciated.
