Great tune. Prefer the DJ edit myself (which fortunately is gettable on CD since you can't make the DJ 45 from the stock 45).

I actually found this on promo vinyl today at an antique shop. Near mint condition. Times to something like 4:30 on the label.

FYI I believe that the short version has always had a nasty hum on it. 50 or 60 cycles.

Oh really? I know the pitch is raised a tad. The LP version does sound crisper, but I find the "edit" is more to the point.

That's why I like single edit better, because they hit home in terms of delivery. I know a lot of people hate the edit for "Beginnings" by Chicago for example. But I don't know, I think for oldies or gold stations, it gets all the good parts, and delivers it quickly.

But I'll have to listen for the hum on my single. I don't engage a sub-sonic filter on my turntable, and my PSBs go down to a respectable 31 Hz so I should hear it.
Cheers,

My main beef with the 45 edit of Chicago's "Beginnings" is it completely eliminates the entire jam session featuring the Peter Cetera led "only the beginning" verse repeated over and over. To me, that's the catchiest part of the song!

The dj version says (edit) next to the title.   What differs from the commercial version?

The commercial 45 included the full 5:23 version. The promo has a 4:08 edit.

Yes, that I knew. Just wondering if the 4:08 edit has unique audio.
