OK, I need some assistance from the experts on this one.

One of my fellow radio friends brought this up in conversation. While
released in a long version (4:37) there's suppose to be an edit of this Bobby
Goldsboro track that was only available on a promo single. I've acquired a
handful of them, ranging from the cream label, white label and yellow label
(all marked as Promo versions on the label) and they're all the long version.
I'd love to find a copy of the 3:51 edit, but everywhere I've searched I have
yet to find the short version.

Bill

Billy: It exists, and I have one. To aid in your research, I will shoot out a vinyl dub of this short version to you.

Jim:

Just to clarify, does the short edit of "Summer (The First Time)" on your DJ 45 copy officially clock in at 3:51?

Just re-checked it for you, Todd. Exactly 3:52.

Quite easy to recreate the 3:51 promo edit.

Using the 4:37 version:
Remove from 0:00 to 0:24.194
Keep 0:24.194-3:25.410
Remove 3:25.410-3:36.626
Begin your fade as Bobby sings "...last day of June, and the sun was a demon. (fade completely out at piano from 4:25.7-4:27.7)

Your edit should run 3:51.

As a point of reference, some stock copies of "Summer (The First Time)" contain the promo edit. These are not advertised as such -- the listed label time is 4:37 -- but the record plays the edit. The number in the trail-off wax is UAST-12002-E.
