The actual commercial 45 run time for Jackson Browne's "Boulevard" is 3:13, not 3:15 as stated on the record label. (This info comes courtesy of Jim a.k.a. "jimct".) I only post this information because both CD appearances of this song run 3:19, which suggests to me that the LP length is longer than the 45. Does anyone have Jackson Browne's vinyl LP Hold Out from 1980 on the Asylum label who can report the run time for "Boulevard"?

This song has to have one of the most abrupt fades of any hit single. I always wondered if the tape ran off the end of the reel shortly after the fade point or something during the recording session, but they liked that take & kept it.

Hykker:
Are you referring to the fade as it appears at the end of the 45? The reason I ask is because I just listened to "Boulevard" on my Jackson Browne Hold Out CD (Asylum 511) and the song fades out pretty gradually from approximately the 3:11 mark to the end at 3:19. I don't have a copy of the 45 at my disposal, but I'd love to know if it's an abrupt early fade of the CD (LP?) length. |

Can anyone assist with fade points,(apparently abrupt), to recreate the 45's fade?

The very tail end of the 45's fade is on the abrupt side, to be sure. The boulevard turned into a cow path in no time flat. :)
John, if you fade gradually beginning immediately after the drumbeat at 3:09 to about 3:13.36, and then fade more steeply from that point to roughly 3:13.86, you should pretty much have it. Edited by Yah Shure |

Anybody ever get to the bottom of this one?
Is the version that appears on CD the vinyl LP version or is it just the LP/45 version with a longer and less abrupt fade? |
