Well, I feel silly!

The 4:24 version on my CD copy of Hits is indeed just an early fade of the LP version, not an edit as I'd assumed. I hadn't done an A/B comparison for this track before.

I'll modify the posts above to clarify.
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Thanks for checking Ron!

There are so many Columbia (and Arista) CDs with
updated/different versions of select songs I just had to
have you check to see if you had a variant of 'Hits'.

On the single version clocking in at 3:15, a chorus and the
second verse is eliminated.

I noted after finding a copy of "Hits", the 3:15 45 version and the 4:24 version end the same way with about a minute's worth deleted after the fade out point.
"That dirty, dirty dirty Lowdowww nn."

So, it looks like the 45 version had another minute's worth trimmed out in really good edits. I still haven't placed these side by side to listen. Though, I will
say at this point, whomever did the work was awfully good. (On the 45 version!) I can actually listen to it without feeling jolted at the edits.
<Dave> Someone please tell I-Heart Radio that St. Louis is not known as The Loo!
