the db states the hit version is the 3:57 solo version
with britney spears alone; i checked the hot 100 charts
on the billboard website from that period and it shows
as featuring nicki minja & kesha. question is, which
version was/is considered the hit version? the 3:57
britney solo version or the 4:44 remix version featuring
nicki minaj & kesha?

It's possible some stations played the remix in this area, but I only ever recall hearing the solo version. Maybe Paul Haney would know, but I wonder if the remix versions end up being the ones shown on the chart based on being the most downloaded/streamed version, even if top 40 radio is playing a different version.

We only played the solo version when it was a current and still play the solo version in our Gold category at my CHR I work at.

Same strategy that was used on Rihanna's S&M collaboration was
used here. The song had already cracked the Top 10 as a solo track
but the first week sales of the Kesha/Minaj remix boosted it to its peak
position of three- hence Billboards reference of it. The lions share of the
airplay for virtually its entire Hot 100 run was the solo version.

Again same situation. Both are hit versions and should be labeled as such. If it charted on the Hot 100, I see no reason to ignore it.
