I noticed that the version on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies - A Loss For Words (actual 3:29) and AM Gold - 1978 (digitally exactly 1.9 dB quieter than A Loss For Words; also 3:29) are both pitched about 1.9% faster than the version on Rhino's Have A Nice Day Vol. 24 (actual 3:36). The fade points are a little different, so that doesn't account for all 7 seconds of difference.
I assume that the Time-Life versions are very close to the sound of A&M's Best Of CD, which also runs 3:29; don't have that one, though. Does anyone know which is the proper pitch? The Rhino CD is closer to the pitch of the LP version on Classics Volume 6, so I assume that's how the song was played in the studio. |
