I believe this track may warrant some additional notation in the database. I own it on 3 sources:
"Color By Numbers" (Epic/Virgin EK 39107) This catalog number is not in the database. I believe this was an early US pressing as my copy has "Made In USA - Digital Audio Disc Corp" stamped in the inner ring, which dates it to no later than around 1987. I'm going to assume it has the same mastering as Virgin 91391 and 86180 versions. "Best of 80's Rock" (Priority 53781) "Sounds of the Eighties 1983-1984" (Time-Life R988-11) The version on "Color By Numbers" runs 4:29 and tracks into the next selection, which results in reverb from the last word, "blind", to be cut off before it is able to fully decay. The version on "Best of 80's Rock" also runs 4:29, but it fades out over the last 5 seconds to cover up the abrupt ending from the "Colour By Numbers" LP version. Finally, the version on "Sounds of the Eighties 1983-1984" runs 4:32, which is due the fact that the reverb on "blind" is allowed to fully decay over the final seconds. I do not own the 45, but have to imagine that this is the correct "45 version". |

I noticed that the database has been updated with 45 version/LP version designators. But they are not what I was expecting. As with 995wlol above, I assumed that the versions with the longer decaying reverb at the end were the 45 version (I never owned the 45). But the database seems to indicate that's not the case.
Could someone weigh in on what the differences are between the 45 and LP version? |

On my 45, the ending is cold before any decay of the word "blind" and this version appears on VH1 Storytellers while on the LP there is some decay of the word blind before it tracks into the next selection and this version appears on the cd Color By Numbers and on yet other cd's like the Time-Life cd "Sounds Of The Eighties 1983-1984", the decay goes to zero and is even longer than the LP version Color By Numbers cd as the fade out is not interrupted by tracking into another selection.

Thanks! I had a chance to listen for myself when I realized I owned at least one of the CDs with the 45 version (the CEMA 10 Best), in addition to the DCC Cosmopolitan Vol. 1 and the Colour By Numbers CD. Another difference I noticed between the Colour By Numbers version and the Cosmopolitan CD is that there is much more reverb throughout the acapella ending on the Cosmopolitan CD. You hear the heavy echo kick in on the second "I know you miss me..." and continue through to the end. There is much less reverb on the LP version. |

I think you might have meant more reverb on the LP version? Just to sum up: In a cappella section at the end, there's lots of reverb on the LP version, which I have on Cosmopolitan Vol. 1 and Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties 1983-1984 (differently EQ'd digital clone of Cosmo). There's a lot less reverb in the a cappella section on the 45, and it goes to silence very quickly rather than having a long reverb tail. I have the 45 version on Cema's Ten Best Series - The Best Of Culture Club (1994) and Madacy's Rock On 1984 (digitally exactly 2 dB louder than 10 Best). I couldn't hear any other mix differences in the song. Sound quality is superb on all of these, by the way. Please correct if I'm wrong on any of this. Edited by crapfromthepast |

I was listening to Dick Bartley's countdown last night on WCBS-FM here in NY and he was counting down this week in 1984.
He played a version of "Miss Me Blind" that I never heard and I know that Dick is a stickler with correct 45 versions so I was wondering if anyone knew where it came from. The version basically cuts out the drum and guitar solo out at the approx. 3:18 mark (which I think is one of the best parts of the whole song) and comes back in at 3:42 mark when he sings "I know you miss me". Was there a dj edit that Dick possibly played? -Jeff Edited by Fetta |

Just over a year ago, a question about a custom edit on Dick Bartley's countdown show was raised...
...Jeff, did you ever email him? Did you ever get a response? Inquiring minds want to know! |

Actually never emailed him..... Just looked to see if I could email him now
and he doesn't have an email address. Even went on CBS-FM's website and it wasn't listed there either. Anyone know where he can be emailed? -Jeff |
