The introduction is :12 longer on the LP than on the 45.

The first 5.6 seconds of the intro are chopped off, and there's another edit in the intro that omits most of the second violin line. The 45 runs 2:48; kind of pointless since the LP version only runs 3:00. They must have thought that extra :12 of instrumental intro made a difference.

Gentlemen, thank you! A couple easy edits and I now have a file running 2:48.

hummm, i would like to make my own edit, however with the info here, and
no 45 to reference, I can not determine what "most of the second violin line"
means. Can someone exact the edit points for me? Or, send me an MP3?

thanks....

I agree with David and don't understand the 2nd edit of the intro. Can someone elaborate on the 2nd piece that's edited? I have the song on CD but want a WAV that is the single edit.

I have the LP version on a few CDs, and, surprisingly, all sound pretty good.

The oldest CD I have with "We Just Disagree" is Columbia's Rock Classics Of The '70s (1989), where it runs 2:59. The same analog transfer is used for:
  • Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 34 Late '70s (1993)
  • Time-Life's AM Gold Vol. 24 1977 (1997; digitally exactly 3.649 dB louder than Sounds Of The Seventies)
  • Time-Life's 2-CD Singers And Songwriters Vol. 4 1976-1977 (2000; digitally exactly 3.649 dB louder than Sounds Of The Seventies)
The version on Sony's Seems Like Yesterday Vol. 3 (1990) is a tiny bit muffled. The version on Sony's cheapie After The Love (1991) has a slightly longer fade than the others. The version on Rhino's Listen To The Music '70s Male Singer Songwriters (1996) sounds about the same as After The Love.

Really, all of the above sound just fine for the LP version.

Here are instructions for creating the 45 edit from Rhino's Listen To The Music '70s Male Singer Songwriters (1996):

Remove the first 8 beats from 0:00.0 to 0:06.0 of the LP version.

Segment 1
Begins on downbeat
Extends from 0:06.0 to 0:15.4 of the LP version
Extends from 0:00.0 to 0:09.4 of the 45 edit
Ends mid-beat

Remove the 8 beats from 0:15.4 to 0:21.0 of the LP version.

Segment 2
Begins mid-beat
Extends from 0:21.0 to 3:01.7 (end) of the LP version
Extends from 0:09.4 to 2:50.1 (end) of the 45 edit

Your mixdown will run 2:48 (or 2:50.1, including outro silence) with one edit at 0:09.4.

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
