I don't have a 45 of The Dave Clark Five's 'Do You Love Me', but on my copy of the All-Time Greatest Hits LP the song runs 2:27 (which is the running time given in Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual 1955-1999) and has a faded ending. On the History Of CD it runs 2:43 and ends cold. Could someone verify the running time of the 45?

Hi Paul,
My 45 fades and runs 2:25. My "History Of" also fades, but the fade is longer (2:43). In fact, I can't find a cold ending anywhere on CD or LP. |

I just timed the US LP appearance on the "Glad All Over" vinyl album and it runs (2:25), syncs perfectly with the version on "History Of" and of course fades. So I can only assume that the version on the "History Of" cd is :18 longer than any previously issued version in the United States.

Thanks, Robert. And you're right of course, the song also fades on History Of, the fade is just longer. My post was based on memory, which I'm starting to find less and less reliable. Just this morning I sent an eBay seller $23 for a CD that I just realized I already own.

Don't feel bad, Paul. I probably have four or five CDs I've inadvertantly bought twice, or bought when I thought I'd "lost" the first copy. |

Gee, you too? Uhm... Okay I'll admit - I have a few duplicates of my own. I'll bet a lot of us can say that - and I would bet that we all have some pretty hard-to-find stuff stashed away in those "bought it twice" boxes. We should figure out a way to be able to swap some of those CD's with each other. Anybody have an idea how we could work it?

I happened to notice on eBay a Canadian 45 of Dave Clark Five's "Do You Love Me" with a run time of 2:41 printed on the record label, which more closely resembles the length of the song's lone database CD appearance. Can anyone confirm if the Canadian or UK 45 has a longer run time than their U.S. 45/LP counterpart?

my commercial 45 issued as epic 9678 does NOT list a run
time on the label but runs 2:26.....if you fade the history cd version for 0:09 from 2:17 to 2:26 you can effectively re-create the proper vinyl 45 version..... Edited by edtop40 |

Are there different pressings of the US 45? The times given for the 45 in this thread apparently range from 2:25 to 2:27.

A YouTube user has uploaded what is alleged to be U.K. 45 audio of The Dave Clark Five's "Do You Love Me":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5vj_CBKXaI I say "alleged" because it's not clear whether the audio was ripped from an actual vinyl 45 copy or from a CD source (in my estimation, it sounds a little too clean to be from the former). However, if this is an accurate representation of what's on the U.K. 45, then it can be logically concluded that the two database CDs containing the extended 2:42/2:43 length of "Do You Love Me" are indeed the U.K. 45 length and, therefore, the existing comments for those CDs should probably be updated to reflect that.
