Hello everyone - here's a random request. Does anyone have the single version of Donna Summer's "Work That Magic" on mp3? Although this didn't hit the Hot 100 in 1991, it got a fair amount of airplay here in Atlanta on Power 99. I had the cassette single with the single version but lost it along the way. It should have been the first single from her CD "Mistaken Identity"- it's a better single than "When Love Cries". Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have it. Great song. The single version was the "ISA Remix/Radio Edit".

I think this remix/edit can be found on the recent two
disc UK release titled “Hits, Singles & More” (on
the Music Club Deluxe label). It covers most of Donna’s
‘80s releases. Missing are some of the easy to get on CD
tracks like “She Works Hard For ….,” “Unconditional Love”
and her cover of “There Goes My Baby.” Instead this set
includes some hard to find edits. The only one they
missed was the edit of “The Woman In Me.” Who knows why
they went with the longer LP version instead. Still not a
bad collection (it fills some gaps for collectors and/or
Donna Summer fans, plus I got my copy for just $12, which
is darn good for an import consisting of 32 tracks
total). Here’s the complete track listing:

Disc 1:

1.     This Time I Know It’s For Real
2.     Love Is In Control(Finger On The Trigger) (7”
Version)
3.     State Of Independence (7” Version)
4.     Looking Up
5.     Cold Love (Edit)
6.     Romeo
7.     All Systems Go (Edit)
8.     Supernatural Love (Remix)
9.     Suzanna
10.     When Love Takes Over You (Remix)
11.     Highway Runner
12.     Breakaway (Power Radio Mix)
13.     Heaven’s Just A Whisper Away
14.     The Woman In Me (LP Version)
15.     You To Me
16.     Only The Fool Survives (Edit)

Disc 2:

1.     Dinner With Gershwin (Edit)
2.     The Wanderer
3.     Eyes (7” Remix Edit)
4.     I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt (7” Remix)
5.     Love’s About To Change My Heart
6.     True Love Survives
7.     Who Do You Think You’re Foolin’ (Edit)
8.     Work That Magic (Capricorn ISA Remix)
9.     (If It) Hurts Just A Little
10.     When Love Cries (Radio Remix)
11.     I’m A Rainbow
12.     Let There Be Peace
13.     State Of Independence (New Bass Edit)
14.     Love Is In Control(Finger On The Trigger) (Dance
Remix)
15.     Dinner With Gershwin (Extended Version)
16.     This Time I Know It’s For Real (Extended Remix)

Unfortunately, no. Driven By The Music had THREE chances to release this single version, and all three times, they royally f****ed it up. First, when they re-released "Mistaken
Identity", they used the U.K. edition of the album as a guide. Unfortunately, the U.K. edition does not utilize the original album version of "Work That Magic", and instead utilizes the
"ISA Full Length Remix", which annoyingly enough clocks at almost the same length as the original album version. Fans thought that when the label issued "Hits, Singles & More", the issue
would be rectified and perhaps they would also include the original album version. Once again, they included the "ISA Full Length Remix". Finally, when they issued the Singles box set,
the Original Album Version and the correct single version, "ISA Remix/Radio Edit" (3:52) were both missing.

To track down the single version, you either have to find a copy of the U.S. Promo CD Maxi Single or the German CD Maxi Single. Both are impossible to find. To obtain the Original
Album Version, you have to track down the original U.S. pressing or German pressing (or pretty much any pressing other than the U.K.).

Oh yeah, when I saw "Capricorn ISA Remix" I recalled in
my painful research of this single mix that was the
description for the longer remix. The ISA Remix Radio
Edit is a completely different mix.

But I'd still order this collection if the singles from
The Wanderer album are the the correct 45 versions.

BTW, I have the ISA Remix/Radio Edit as a 320k rip from
the promo maxi single. Since I could not find this CD
anywhere on Earth...this is the next best thing and it
sounds great. And this radio mix blows away all the other
versions.
PM me if you'd like to have it.

Frank, thanks for introducing me to this song!

Thanks for the offer, I own the U.S. promo CD Maxi. I bought it twice. The first time back in 1992 from a DJ who was selling his CDs. I did't pay much, since the single had been a big
fat flop. Unfortunately, I lost it. It took me over a decade to find another copy. All ISA remixes, with the exception of the Capricorn mix, are basically the same (different edits).
The Capricorn mix is very different, kind of downtempo/midtempo mix. It was awful. It was the only mix left off the U.S. promo CD maxi, but it was included on the German CD Maxi.

The ISA Remix/Radio Edit is just an edit. I'm not sure why they insist with including the full length remix (which is not the ISA extended remix).

The Donna Summer reissues are great (my name appears on the 'Thank Yous' of all reissued albums), but is still missing some single versions, and those mixes were not included neither on the compilation nor on the singles box set.

Check your Inbox, I finally replied to your PM. :)

Ah, but is there a longer ISA Remix that can be edited? I
found when I was comparing them that the "Radio edit" had
mix differences in the intro and other places that were
not in the longer ones.

1     Work That Magic (ISA Remix/Radio Edit)     3:52
2     Work That Magic (ISA Remix)     5:00
3     Work That Magic (Extended ISA Remix)     6:20

The Original Album Version includes lyrics not found on any of the Ian Stanley mixes:

And the man and woman fall in love
And it's magic...pure magic!

Tenderly you call my name
Turned my heart into a burning flame
