Though not listed in the database, the Communards' "Don't Leave Me This Way" peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. I was wondering if anyone can provide run time information for both the 45 and vinyl LP. I'm trying to determine if there's a difference between the two and, if so, is it a difference of length or version?

The actual run time of the vinyl 45 is (4:35), and it is an edit of the (6:26) LP version. I don't know the printed times, though.

Thanks for the run time info, Aaron. But if I may ask... Is your LP run time based on the vinyl LP or the original 1986 U.S. pressing of the Communards' self-titled CD? The reason I ask is because at least one reviewer on Amazon has complained that "Don't Leave Me This Way" runs 6:26 on the 1986 U.S. CD pressing, yet only clocks in at 4:51 on the 1993 remastered import CD reissue. Another reviewer though claims the 4:51 time is reflective of the original vinyl LP version, though he doesn't mention if this is based on the U.S. or U.K. LP release (if there's even a difference between the two). That said, I just want to make 100% sure that we're dealing with the U.S. vinyl LP run time here. So do we know for certain if it's 6:26 or 4:51?

Todd, the listed time of my commercial 45 states (4:36). I have also presently been hunting for that Communards CD, and just about all the CDs I've seen happen to tack what I recall was a 6:00+, "12-inch version" of "Don't Leave Me This Way" as a CD bonus track, with the shorter version of the song appearing earlier on the same disc. Problem is, the copy of the U.S. commercial 12" single I am currently holding in my hand has a listed time of (7:50). I am still trying to locate my original LP for you, Todd.

The (6:26) version is from the 1986 US CD pressing. I am not sure about the actual vinyl LP run time.

Thanks, Jim and Aaron. I've decided to go ahead and order the Communards self-titled import disc. In the meantime, if anyone can furnish the vinyl LP run time, I'd appreciate it!

Todd, the original 1986 U.S. vinyl LP (MCA 5794) has a listed and actual time of (4:50).

BTW, this was a big, big hit on my college radio station at the time and we almost always played the longer 12" version.

Thanks, Paul! It's beginning to look like the Amazon reviewer is right about the vinyl LP featuring a different version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" than the 1986 U.S. CD pressing.

Todd, I'd been wanting this CD for a while anyway, found a reasonably priced original U.S. CD (MCA/London MCAD-5794), and received it today. And as the Amazon reviewer correctly stated, this copy does have both a listed and actual (6:26) version of "Don't Leave Me This Way". So based on our buddy Paul Haney's obviously-correct U.S. vinyl LP timing report of (4:50), it is now confirmed that the original U.S. LP and the original U.S. CD of this album include different length versions of the song.

I timed the original LP version and it indeed runs (4:50). I've edited my post above accordingly.
