I never noticed this until just now, but there are two different 4:00 versions of Escape Club's "Wild Wild West." One of them can be found on Rhino 71643 Billboard Top Hits 1988; however, I'm quite sure this is NOT the 45 Version.

I have what I believe is the 45 mix on a CD called Totally 80s (Razor & Tie - available at one time through a TV offer). This version is pitched up, and it has a synthesizer note right before the first vocals start. Also, the drums aren't as bass-heavy.

I don't own the 45, but I do have the 12" single. On my 12" there is a version called "Single Edit," which I assume is the same one used on the 45. This is the mix that is pitched up and has the synth note before the first vocals.

Anyone own the 45 to verify? Who knows where this other version on Billboard Top Hits came from?

I had not noticed this either Aaron but you are correct. All the versions that run 4:04 on cd are neither the 45 nor LP version for the reasons that you pointed out.

So does this mean that even the Like Omigod! The '80$ Pop Culture Box (Totally) on Rhino 78239 contains the "neither the 45 nor LP version" of Escape Club's "Wild Wild West"? That's interesting considering the compilers of that box set seemed to go to great lengths to provide the correct 45 versions of nearly every other track on the set (I think the Vapors' "Turning Japanese" is the only other track where the 45 version was not used).

That is correct Todd, Rhino goofed on "Like Omigod" with the song Wild Wild West.

I have checked every cd listed in Top 40 Music On Compact Disc and all of the entries that run 4:04 do not have the synth yaw.

edtop40...there are some CDs that have the correct 45 version...the ones listed with a run time of 3:58 I'm guessing. It's only those with a 4:04 run time that are incorrect.

Good catch, Aaron! Damn, you guys are good. I have the original Japanese three-inch CD single, two track, and turns out it is the 45 mix as well.
