I recreated the 45 edit from the promotional CD The Top Ten Hits Of Expose (Arista ASCD-2483, 1992), which appears to have the LP version (actual run time of 4:20). Here's what I did, in case you want to repeat the steps.
There's an out-of-sequence edit you'll need between the first and second verses - it's a transitional 2-second block that gets replaced before the vocals start in the second verse. You probably wouldn't notice if it wasn't pointed out to you. These are the blocks of the LP version you should use to recreate the 45: 0:00-0:01 edit on downbeat 0:09-0:16 edit between beats 0:24-0:41 edit on upbeat 0:49-1:43 edit on downbeat 0:47-0:49 edit on snare hit between beats 1:45-4:01 start fade at 3:45 When all this is assembled, your mixdown should have edits at 0:01, 0:08, 0:25, 1:19 and 1:21, with a 32-beat sinusoidal fade starting at 3:21. |

I can't believe you posted on this topic because I was just trying to recreate the 45 last weekend. I quit when I got to the "out-of-sequence" edit since I assumed the different instrumentation was due to it being some sort of a 12" edit.
Thanks for the info! |

i believe the proper 45 version is available on cd already...did you check the db first before you made the edit?

I can't speak for crapfromthepast, but already having the LP version on CD and the 45 on vinyl, I was just trying to save a few bucks by making the edit myself.

Same situation with me - I have both the 45 and CD.
I've done this with a lot of '80s-era songs, but thought this one was post-worthy because the out-of-sequence edit wasn't obvious. If any of you would like to see more posts like this, I'll be happy to post editing instructions for the other tracks I've worked on. |

I too, own tons of 45s and tons of CDs, and sometimes I'd prefer to spend time editing over money, when I already have all the source material. I'm especially curious about quirkier, out-of-sequence edits - like this one, "Freddie's Dead", "Beginnings", etc. |

The only other out-of-sequence edit I've done was to re-create the "short version" of REO Speedwagon's I Do'wanna Know. I didn't save the edit points for reference, but I believe I had to move part of the vocal from the end of the second chorus to the end of the first chorus (in addition to removing the organ solo).
Actually, as I type, I am rememering that I had to resequence some vocals to re-create the edit of Method of Modern Love by Hall & Oates. Part of the fist chorus is also used in the short chorus that precedes the first verse. Edited by 995wlol |

I've researched and searched to find a cd version of the
45 edit (listed 3:29 / actual 3:37). Most compilation discs either have the lp version (4:18) the extended version or some kind of custom edit or the tracks are mixed together. Anyone know where I can find the proper 45 edit on cd? Thanks in advance Edited by promojunkie |

I was curious myself if the 45 version ever appeared on CD, so I dug into it and found exactly two CDs that include it:

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

How's the mastering on the Playlist CD, Ron? Is it brickwalled? Some of the "Playlist" series tracks I have are pretty nice, while others came from dynamically squashed sources. |
