Is there a short edit on a promo single for this?

My commercial 45 is the LP version, as is the version on The "A" List, but I have a version on a Hitmakers disc (Volume 17, Mar 3, 1989) that's about 27 seconds shorter with a total run time of about 3:38. The Hitmakers version can be created by removing the 32 beats from 2:25 to 2:52, splicing on the downbeat on the word "all".

On a related note, does anyone have any info about the Hitmakers discs? I know they started in 1988 and put one out about every three weeks, and I've been quite impressed with the sound quality on the few I have. But I don't know much more than that...

Actually, this information is mentioned in the database, but only when you click on the title next to Peter Cetera. When you click on the title next to Cher, the song note does not appear.

Thanks for the info about the Hitmakers CDs. From the few I have, I've been very impressed. It appears that for many of the tracks, they're exact digital clones of a track from the promo CD singles or full album CDs, sometimes with only a level change.

Here's a tiny and presumably very incomplete list of songs I've encountered that are digital clones of the major labels' releases:

YOU GOT IT (THE RIGHT STUFF) - New Kids On The Block [Hitmakers Vol. 12 is digitally exactly 0.064 dB louder than Hangin' Tough CD]
I'LL BE YOU - Replacements [Hitmakers Vol. 18 is different EQ than promo CD single; probably same EQ as full album]
CUDDLY TOY (FEEL FOR ME) - Roachford [digitally exactly 0.747 dB louder than Roachford CD]
FIGURE OF EIGHT - Paul McCartney [Hitmakers Vol. 29 is digitally exactly 2.078/2.431 dB louder in L/R than Track 1 (7" Version) from Paul McCartney Rocks]
JUST A FRIEND - Biz Markie [Hitmakers Vol. 29 is digitally exactly 1.194 dB quieter than only track ("LP version") on promo CD single]
WICKED GAME - Chris Isaak [Hitmakers Vol. 45 is different level from edit on promo CD single]
HOLD YOU TIGHT - Tara Kemp [Hitmakers Vol. 46 is different level from edit on promo CD single]

I know the tracks aren't 100% taken from the CD singles, though. "Close To Me" by The Cure on Hitmakers Vol. 46 isn't the same mastering as on the single, and "Give It Away" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Hitmakers Vol. 71 is the LP version and is pretty severely maximized.

Keep in mind I don't have many Hitmakers volumes or promo CD singles, so it's a fluke when I have the same song on both. But more often than not, when I do have both, they seem to be the same mastering with a level change.

This is good news for edit-hunters like myself, in that a Hitmakers disc is probably less expensive than the comparable promo single.

I personally used collections called "Hot Hits" (still have Vols. 3-45, which span 1991-1996), "Spotlight On Hits" (still have Vols. 1-3 and 9-?, spanning roughly 1991-1996), and "Top Hits USA" from RPM (still have all the recurrents ever issued from 1992-present and all the weeklies ever issued from 1996-present). I haven't found any vinyl dubs on any of them, but vinyl was pretty much done by time these were issued in the '90s.

"Hot Hits" and "Spotlight On Hits" seem to use the LP versions (not 100% sure about these), while "Top Hits USA" is almost always the hit edit.

I'm looking for more of the Hitmakers from the 1988-1992 time frame, and I'm certainly willing to trade/etc for whatever I've got. (I don't know how frowned-upon this is on the forum, so I'll just leave it at that...)

Can the promo 'short version' be recreated from the 4:03 version?

Does removing between 3:10 and 3:36 make sense? The file runs 3:35 if the edits are there.
