Picked up a nice, clean stock 45 of this song today. Label says 3:50, run time is actually 3:47.

I know there are some edits, just don't know where yet...unless someone here has already recreated the 45 version.

I also know it's not mentioned in the database, as it must not have cracked the Top 40 in 1979. And, Whitburn's search site is down for renovation, so i don't know any U.S. chart position.

Peaked at #74. You can check Billboard chart positions at allmusic.com, but the site is extremely slow and "times out" a lot when doing a search.

Two cuts and an early fade:

(I cut this one from notes I took on the 45's song structure, so my cut times are approximate. Without listening A/B, I know which segments were shortened, but I don't know exactly what parts were eliminated.)

1 - Cut one repeat of the chorus (about 13 seconds) in the second chorus @ around 1:49.

2 - Cut four bars from the guitar lick before the "Sending out an SOS" coda. This comes around 3:09 in the edit.

3 - Fade early. There may also be a cut within the fade, but I'm not sure.

If anyone has a 45 dub handy, I'll double-check the cut points. Otherwise, I'll try to dig mine out over the weekend.

Ok, I was close. The segments you'll use, from the album version, are found at:

1 - (0:00) through (1:47), cut at beat 4.
2 - (2:00), at beat 4, through (3:22), cut on beat 4.
3 - (3:29), at beat 4, through (3:32), cut just before beat 4.
4 - (3:38), just before beat 4, through (4:11).

In the assembled edit, you have cuts at (1:47), (3:10), and (3:13). The fade runs from about (3:33) through (3:48).
